Defending Champs Start with a Win
September 1, 2015 • Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island—The University of Maine Fort Kent Women’s soccer team started the new season with a 7-1 victory over Holland College. The two-time defending USCAA champions are looking to build on their recent success with 10 returning starters.

This game was never in doubt as the Bengals opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Freshman Veronica De La Cruz took a Katherine Ferland pass and buried it in the back of the net. Marie-Laurance Montagne scored the eventual game winner in the 15th minute assisted by De La Cruz. Tiffany Anderson added a goal in each half for UMFK.

Montagne added her second goal two minutes into the second half and USCAA All-Americans Yosselin Burrueco and Katherine Ferland both added goals in the second 45 as well.

Holland College scored their lone goal on a penalty kick in the 54th minute but that would be the only shot they could get against the Bengal defense. Michelle Delgadillo picked up the victory in goal.
