Bengals Upset Washington Adventist
January 23, 2017 • Lynn, Massachusetts

Lynn, Massachusetts--The University of Maine at Fort Kent men's basketball team upset the #2 team in USCAA Division I, Washington Adventist in a neutral site contest, 96-77 on Sunday afternoon. The win should all but seal a USCAA tournament berth and move the Bengals up in the next national poll on Friday.

The Bengals were desperate for a win against a top USCAA team, something they had been missing from the previous two years. UMFK scored 52 points in the second half, after being knotted at 44 at halftime, 21 of those by Travis Harlin Jr., who hit three treys and shot 8-10 in the half alone.

UMFK opened the second half on a 9-0 run but WAU cut the lead to 63-61. The Bengals then went on a 31-10 run over the next 10 minutes to put the game away. UMFK held the Shock to just 31% shooting in the second half, while the Bengals shot 65%.

Joe McCloskey led the Bengals with 25 points while Harlin Jr. finished with 23. Rosevelt Smith Jr. had a fantastic all-around effort with 15 points, 17 rebounds, and nine assists. Bobby Syvanthong posted a double double with 11 points and 10 assists. Will White came off the bench and scored 13.

Washington Adventist was led by reigning USCAA Player of the Year, Brian Bridgeforth who scored 21 points but was held to just six in the second half.
