Game Recap

Cobleskill, New York—The University of Maine at Fort Kent men’s basketball team overcame a horrific first half, scoring just 19 points in the stanza, to beat SUNY Cobleskill 70-64. The switching zone defenses of SUNY stifled the Bengal offense for the first 20 minutes. UMFK shot 5-20 from the floor and 7-14 from the line. Their defense kept them in the game however, allowing just 30 first half points.

In the second half, the Bengals were able to run a little more in transition and their half time adjustments against the zone worked to perfection. The guards for UMFK were able to penetrate the zone and dish underneath to big guy Joe McCloskey or kick out for 3’s. Marquis Glenn turned in his best performance of the season, scoring 20 of his 22 points in the second half, hitting three 3’s in the process. He also had 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the 15/16 season. McCloskey also had a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. He was the recipient all night long of the guards creating and dishing down low for the easy finishes. UMFK shot 16-19 in the second half to close the game.

Qaadir Ali and Rosevelt Smith Jr. each had a great game, especially handling the Tigers pressure defense all night long. Ali had 10 points, 6 assists and 3 steals, while Smith had 7 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals.

UMFK returns to action tomorrow to face Albany College of Pharmacy at 6pm.
