The UMFK men’s basketball team opened their season Saturday in Fort Kent, Maine with a 77-59 win over Mount Allison University (Sackville, Canada).
The Bengals (1-0), a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division One Independent, used a run midway through the first half to build a 46-31 halftime advantage. Junior guard Jeremy Thomas (Detroit, Michigan) led UMFK with 26 points and nine rebounds. He was six for nine from three point range. Senior forward Othniel Hyliger (Sandy Point, St. Kitts) added 14 points and eight boards for UMFK and Jorge Matesanz (Fr., Sevilla, Spain) reached double figures with 10 points off the Bengal bench.
Kevin Monaghan and Benjamin Chisholm led Mount Allison (1-1) with 10 points each.
