ROBERT “BOB” STEDT

Robert “Bob” Stedt is a Maine native who enrolled at UMFK in 1970 in the education program and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974. In 1990, Bob earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Maine.

While a student at UMFK, Bob was a three-year starter for the Bengals men’s soccer team, served as team captain and was named to the All-Conference team. He was coached by UMFK Hall of Fame Coach Lowell “Ozzie” Osgood.

Bob has made his mark in athletics as a soccer, basketball, and baseball official, having worked more than 11,000 high school and college athletic contests. He also has been a leader and supporter of wrestling and skiing in Aroostook County and the State of Maine. Bob has been a longtime active member of several professional athletic and officiating associations including membership and leadership for more than 35 years in the Northern Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials; the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials; and the Northern Maine Board of Approved Baseball Umpires. Bob serves as the college and high school soccer assignor for Aroostook County and high school soccer assignor for State of Maine regional and state championship games at all classes.

The field of education has been the focus of Bob’s work experience. For seventeen years he taught sixth grade then second grade for Woodland Elementary School (Woodland, Maine). After earning a master’s degree, he served as teaching principal for the St. Francis Elementary School; assistant principal and athletic director for Community High School in Fort Kent; and principal for Van Buren Secondary School. Bob retired as a full-time educator in 2006 and moved on to work as a school bus driver for the New Sweden School Department.

Currently a volunteer for Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp and Caribou Recreation Youth Baseball, throughout the years Bob has been a volunteer and active supporter of various clubs and organizations that focus on youth development.

Bob and his wife, Susan Doody Stedt, (UMFK ‘75) have been married for 45 years and reside in New Sweden, Maine. They have three grown children: son, Jason, and his fiancé, Gina Jandreau, and granddaughter, Logan, 11; son, Kelly, and his wife, Amber Nadeau (UMFK ’07), and grandson Amos 5, granddaughter Winslow Rose 2; and daughter, Lea, and her husband, Justin Powers.
