Jennifer Colpitts is one of the most accomplished athletes in the history of the University of Maine at Fort Kent. In what was a glorious stretch of success for UMFK Athletics, she stood out amongst many great athletes as a two-sport star who excelled on both the soccer pitch and the basketball court.

The Scarborough, Maine native came to UMFK in the Fall of 2010 and found immediate success under Coach Lucas Levesque as she was a part of the first ever USCAA National Championship Women’s Soccer team. That same year she was the Sunrise Conference Rookie of the Year on the basketball team. She enjoyed continued success the following season as the soccer team won another national title and she helped lead the basketball team to the Sunrise Conference Final Four. During her Junior and Senior years she would lead the women’s basketball teams to back to back appearances at the USCAA National Tournament.

It was in her final two years where Colpitts truly shined, especially on the court. She was a USCAA All-Conference nomination her Junior and Senior year and won the prestigious UMFK Female Student-Athlete of the Year in those two seasons as well. It is an incredibly short list of people who have won that award more than once; Colpitts is the only woman to do so. She racked up the accolades due to her being a force at the forward position for Brad Holabird’s basketball teams, amassing over 1,000 points in her career. Before graduating, Colpitts also won the Terry Drown Award for her success as student, athlete, and contributing member of the greater community.

Most importantly, Colpitts consistently made the Dean’s List and graduated in 2014 with a degree in Nursing. She then went on to earn a Master’s in Nursing from Simmons University and currently works as a Nurse Practitioner. Colpitts is the true definition of what it means to be a successful student athlete at the University of Maine Fort Kent.
