Ed McKay was an incredible scorer for the Bengals Men’s Basketball team between 1978 and 1982. The unbelievably skilled guard had unlimited range and could sink baskets from anywhere on the court. Known for his shot-making ability, McKay scored over 1,500 points in a Bengal uniform.

McKay traveled north to Fort Kent from sunny Florida but had no problems heating up night after night, torching northeast opponents over the course of his four years. In the 1978-79 season, McKay was selected to the All-Northeastern Conference team and was the second leading scorer in the conference. He followed that up in the 1979-1980 season by once again making the All-Conference team, but this time led the entire state of Maine in scoring. McKay also was a member of the UMFK soccer team and cross-country teams, further showcasing his all-around athletic ability.

A popular young man on campus, Ed was the DJ on the UMFK radio station during his college days, and after graduating in 1982, he moved to California, where he works as a state employee. Of the many great players that graced the old hardwood floors of the UMFK Sports Center, who put up huge scoring numbers and guided their teams to countless wins, Ed McKay is perhaps one of if not the first great scorer of them all. He was a pioneer as a multi-sport athlete, and his incredible playing days as a Bengal will never be forgotten.
