Bengals Shock Southern Oregon

Ashland, Oregon—The University of Maine at Fort Kent men’s basketball team pulled off a major upset on Wednesday evening, beating NAIA #11 ranked, Southern Oregon, 101-95.

UMFK had struggled on the road trip thus far but figured things out offensively and got enough defensive stops when it mattered.

The Bengals trailed by 13 early in the first half, 25-12, but went on a 29-15 run to take their first lead of the half with three minutes to go. They would lead by three at the half after Anthony Knight drainer a deep three pointer as time expired.

UMFK would lead the entire second half until a Jordan Hunt three point play put the Raiders in front 83-81 with five minutes to go. The game was tied at 87 with just over two minutes to go when Knight hit a three from the left corner and Bobby Syvanthong hit a dagger three with just over a minute to go to stretch the lead from four to seven. Syvanthong scored seven of the final 10 UMFK points.

Knight, saddled with second half foul trouble led the Bengals with 27 points in 28 minutes of action. Tom Enerva had a double double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jarid Walton hit three, three point shots on his way to 13, while Travis Harlin and John Caldwell had 13 and 12, respectively.

SOU, picked to finish second in one of the top NAIA conferences in the country was led by Tate Hoffman’s 22 and Jordan Hunt’s 20 points.
