Fort Kent, Maine—The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s and men’s basketball teams both defeated University of Maine at Machias on Tuesday evening. The women won first, 81-48 and the men capped the evening off with an 83-63 victory.
In the men’s game, the Bengals led from start to finish but the final score is not indicative of the game. UMFK led by single digits for much of the first half and were up 37-28 at the half.
Machias cut the lead to just one with 14 minutes to go, but UMFK went to a trapping half court defense, and the Clippers turned the ball over far too often to stay close.
UMFK created steals that led to five second half dunks that carried the Bengals to victory.
Anthony Knight led the Bengals with 26 and 10 rebound points. Jarid Walton had 15 and Bobby Syvanthong had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Benson Arogbo and Troy Williams each had 10.
Trayvone Thompson had 23 points and 11 rebounds. Darius Clark who came into the game averaging 18 points a game, was held to just eight, including just four free throws in the second half.
