Bengals Mount Huge Comeback

Hazleton, Pennsylvania—The University of Maine at Fort Kent men’s basketball team overcame a 17-2 hole to start the game, to beat Penn State Hazleton, 76-62. UMFK has now won 6 straight and 10 of 12 overall.

The Bengals had an atrocious start on both ends and found themselves trailing by 15, just 6:30 into the game. The Bengals started the game with six turnovers and were 1-7 from the field. UMFK would continue to trail by double figures for most of the second half, but a 7-3 run to close the half cut the deficit to 29-22.

The Bengals defense kept them in the game in the first half and eventually the game as the held the Lions to just 32.4% shooting and 29.4% from long range. PSU Hazleton continued to lead, 44-43 with 12:43 to go, but UMFK went on a 22-4 run to lead by 17 (65-48) with 7:08 remaining. Anthony Knight had 14 of his 17 in the second half and big man Tom Enerva had a second half double double, with 13 points and 11 rebounds. He finished with 19 and 14, 10 rebounds coming on the offensive side.

The Bengals stretched their lead to as much as 18 in the second half before securing the win. Troy Williams had 10 and Bobby Syvanthong had 12 rebounds and eight assists. This was his sixth consecutive game with double figure rebounds.

Hazleton was led by Johnathan Fogarty who had 16 and Robbie Hopkins who had 15.
