Bengals Blitz Falcons in Finale

Fort Kent, ME—In what were the final home soccer matches of the season for both the Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams, the Bengals blitzed the visiting Fisher Falcons winning both matches on the day.

In the first match of the day, the Women’s Soccer team pounced on the Falcons early scoring within the first three minutes of the game. They did not let up throughout the match winning 11-2. Tolu Oyeniyi lead the way for the Bengals scoring four goals and Yulianna Sanchez had a hat trick for the Bengals as well. However, the highlight of the match came from Ruth Ann Lorman who intercepted a pass shortly before midfield and charged right through the heart of the defense all the way to a score. Rumbling bumbling stumbling Ruth Ann dramatically netted it home for the Bengals. Additional goals came from Angely Carreno and two from Hope Shea. The Bengals next game comes against St. Michael’s College of Vermont next Thursday. The Bengals record sits at 8-3 and they currently ranked as the number two overall team in the USCAA National Poll.

In the Men’s matchup, the Bengals scored a lucky seven goals and did not allow the Falcons to score at all throughout the entire 90 minute match. Travar McCulloch, Miguel Barnaby, Ali Amin, Lovel Jonas, Cheva Denton all scored for UMFK with Marcel Holness contributing two goals to the cause. The Bengals record finishes at 11-1-3 as they wrapped up their regular season. The Men’s Soccer team is also ranked number two nationally in the USCAA poll, they await to hear where they will be ranked at the USCAA National Championship tournament in early November.

The UMFK Athletic Department would like to acknowledge Tymeka Koustas, Molly McManus, Cameika Davis, Ruth Ann Lorman and Dakota Martin, who played their last home match in a Bengal uniform today. The Men’s soccer team’s seniors are Cory Stewart, Glenroy Osbourne, Lasalle Durio, David Hillman, Ayo Sowole, Miguel Barnaby, Travar McCulloch and Ryan Merckel.

In Women’s Volleyball news, the lady Bengals won both of their matches on the day, the first one against Lyndon State College and the other against Johnson State College at the University of Maine at Presque Isle tournament. The volleyball teams record is currently 13-8 and they will wrap up their regular season in two weeks against Maine Maritime Academy. They will then await their seeding for the USCAA National Championship Tournament.

Reminder that basketball season is upon us. Both Bengal basketball squads open their season against St. Thomas University next Saturday the 26th at 3 PM for the Women’s game with the Men’s game following at 5 PM. There will be a brief ceremony before the first game honoring the late Ronnie Guy who will be remembered forever with a scorer’s table at midcourt provided for by funds from his family.
