Women's Basketball ends season with loss in USCAA consolation game

 The UMFK Women's Basketball ended a great season at the USCAA National Championships Thursday morning with a consolation loss to Virginia Lynchburg.
The UMFK Women's Basketball ended a great season at the USCAA National Championships Thursday morning with a consolation loss to Virginia Lynchburg.

The U-Maine-Fort Kent women's basketball team ended a fine season with a 63-35 loss at the USCAA Women's Basketball Div. 1 National Championships hosted by Penn State-Fayette in Uniontown, PA. UMFK (16-13) completes their season making it to the Elite 8 of USCAA Div. 1 Women’s Basketball.

UMFK was without the services of leading scorer Jenn Colpitts (Jr, G, Scarborough, Maine) who suffered an undetermined leg injury in yesterday’s 98-36 quaterfinal loss to top seed Daemen. On Thursday morning, UMFK got eight early points from junior guard Taylor Boucher (Fort Kent) but VUL then held her scoreless for the remainder of the contest.

VUL fed of that defense and although they were just 24-81 (30%) from the floor and 4-32 (13%) from behind the arch they forced 22 UMFK turnovers and grabbed 30 offensive boards which turned into easy offense. Ebony Miller led the Lady Dragons (22-10) with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Freshmen point guard Kayla Richards (Presque Isle, Maine) added six points and eight boards for UMFK while Brooke Harris (Jr, G, Lee, Maine) had seven points and Kendashia Myles (Fr, Fwd, Lindenwold, New Jersey) added five points. Freshmen forward Samantha Carapellucci (Fort Kent) grabbed a team-high nine boards in the defeat.
