Ferland, Laberge-Pelletier carry Bengals past Hurricanes

Katherine Ferland (So., Montreal, Canada) and Ariane Laberge-Pelletier scored two goals each to carry the U-Maine-Fort Kent women’s soccer team to a UMFK Soccer Labor Day Weekend Classic win over Holland College (PEI, Canada) 4-0 in a non-league match Monday in Fort Kent, Maine. UMFK improves to 2-0 with the win and will play next at Daemen College in Amherst, NY on Saturday September 7 at 5pm. The game will be a rematch of last year’s USCAA Championship Game.

BOX SCORE - Ferland opened the scoring in the 4th minute converting a PK after freshmen Marie-Laurence Montagne (Montreal, Canada) was taken down inside the box. Laberge-Pelletier then struck twice in a three minute span to close the first half with UMFK leading comfortably at 3-0. Ferland closed the scoring ten minutes into the second half, dancing through the Hurricane defense and beating keeper Emma Kelly (Charlottetown, PEI) low. Kayla Richards (So., Mid., Presque Isle, Maine) finished the day with two assists and freshmen forward Safiya Atkinson (Kingston, Jamaica) added an assist on the day.

UMFK out-shot Holland 11-4 on target with Kelly picking up seven saves for the Hurricaines who dropped to 2-1-0 on the year. Kumika Forbes (Sr., Trinidad & Tobago) picked up the shut out win for UMFK making four saves for UMFK.
