Katherine Ferland (Sainte-Agathe-Des-Monts, Canada) recorded three goals in the first half to lead the UMFK women's soccer team past host U-Maine-Presque Isle 7-0 in the annual Potato Barrel game between the two rival Maine-System schools. The Lady Bengals (5-1-0) will play again this Saturday at U-Maine-Machias at 12pm. The Women’s Potato Barrel was established in 2007. After losing the inaugural game, UMFK has won six straight and leads the series 6-1.

In Wednesday afternoon’s game, third-year forward Ariane Laberge-Pelletier (Montreal, Canada) scored an unassisted goal in the 2nd minute which was followed by Ferland’s three tallies in a six minute span (13’ 16’ 19’). Freshmen Marie-Laurence Montagne (Montreal, Canada) and Lexi Desjardins (Fort Kent, Maine) added a goal and assist each on the day. UMFK keepers Kimika Forbes (Trinidad & Tobago) and Jessica Kozachuk (Fr., Sarnia, Ontario), shared time in goal making one save each on two UMPI shots and Forbes was credited with her fifth shutout win.

UMPI (2-3-1) keeper Amanda Larrabee made 17 saves on 24 UMFK shots in the loss.
