Carrapellucci scored a team-high 19 points for UMFK Wednesday

The U-Maine-Fort Kent women’s basketball team picked up a big home win over Aroostook County rival U-Maine-Presque Isle 71-63 Wednesday evening in a top 20 USCAA match-up from Fort Kent, Maine.

UMFK used an 18-4 run to open the game to build a 31-21 lead at the break. However, UMPI (USCAA #11, 15-6) used an 11-0 run to take their first lead of the game at the 13minute mark of the second half.

UMFK would answer with a 10-3 run to put the game out of reach at 68-58 with less than 20 seconds left. Samantha Carepellucci (SO FWD Fort Kent, Maine) led UMFK with 19 points and seven boards and Alexis Warne (JR G Salinas, California) added 12 points off the Lady Bengal bench.

Kayla Richards (SO Presque Isle, Maine) dished out a team-high eight assists and Salinda Chan (JR San Jose, California) had five as UMFK would total a season-best 25 helpers on the night.

Olivia McNally’s game-high 25 points and Amanda Hotham scored 24points off the UMPI bench to lead the Owls.

UMFK (11-7) will close out their regular season in a 1pm home game Saturday against Fisher College.
