Fort Kent—The University of Maine Fort Kent Men’s Basketball Team dropped a tight contest Saturday afternoon to Fisher College of Boston 68-64. The Falcons overcame a 9 point halftime deficit and shot 57% in the second half to beat the Bengals.
The Bengals started the game off strong taking an early 15-9 lead on a James Givens 3 point try that forced a Fisher timeout. The game would go back and forth for most of the half until UMFK extended it to 10 points, 39-29 after back to back 3’s from Jorge Matesanz and Mauro Vicic. The Bengals hit 6 3’s and shot 45 % in the first half.
The game was a tale of two halves however as Fisher’s offense started to click and UMFK went cold from the floor. The Bengals shot just 36% from the floor in the 2nd half and only 2-13 (15%) from 3. UMFK would lead by as much as 12 on a Jake Rioux 3 with 13:52 to go, but it was all Falcons from there as they outscored UMFK 30-14 the rest of the way.
UMFK was led by Joe McCloskey’s game highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Qaadir Ali added 11 points and 7 assists. Rioux hit 3 3’s for 9 points, Vicic had 8, Marquis Glenn had 7 points and 7 rebounds.
Fisher was led by Tylar Shular’s 18. Orlando Zayas had 11 and was followed by Ira Haywood’s 10.
UMFK will now have two weeks off before traveling to Boston to take on the same Fisher team on December 20th.
