Bengals Fall in Semi's
March 4, 2016 • Uniontown, Pennsylvania

Uniontown, Pennsylvania—The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s basketball team (20-6) fell to #1 seed Concordia College of Alabama (23-3) 73-57 today in the USCAA Division I Women’s Basketball semi-finals. The athleticism and physicality of the Hornets proved to be too much for a Bengal team who fought until the end but played with just five players.

The Bengals struggled mightily from the floor at the start and had six first quarter turnovers as Concordia jumped out to an early 32-14 lead midway through the 2nd quarter, after two threes from All-American Erica Ousley. UMFK then went on a 15-2 run to cut the lead the Hornet lead to 34-29 with 1:42 to go in the half. They had no answer for Ousley however, as she had 14 of Concordia’s 16 second quarter points and ended the half with 22.

Fort Kent would battle throughout but Concordia was able to maintain their momentum and never let up. Their second half lead was at least 12 points through its entirety after the first two minutes of the third quarter. Concordia was led by Ousley’s game high 31 points. Shuntavia Harris added 11 points and 9 rebounds.

UMFK shot just 37% from the floor and missed 17 of 21 three point tries against Concordia’s zone defense. They were led by senior Danielle Carrillo who scored 17. Ericka Saucier posted the final double-double of her illustrious career, with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Samantha Carapellucci also ended a fantastic four year career for UMFK with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Junior Romanalyn Inocencio had 10 points and five assists.
