Presque Isle, Maine--The University of Maine at Fort Kent men's soccer team continued its unbeaten streak against rival University of Maine at Presque Isle, beating the Owls, 8-0 on Wednesday evening. The game was played on the turf of Presque Isle High School, under the lights.
Freshman Carlos Crusat Lopez put his stamp on the Potato Barrel rivalry by scoring the first hat trick of his career at UMFK. The striker scored all three goals in the first 30 minutes of the match to reach the milestone. His first goal came just nine minutes in on a pass from Rodney Witter. Crusat Lopez then returned the favor five minutes later to Witter who made it 2-0. Crusat Lopez scored his second goal, also on a pass from Witter and completed the hat trick in the 30th minute.
Ben Kluvers continuted his torrid start and added his ninth goal of his senior campaign on a through ball from Odean Irons to make it 5-0, Bengals at the half. Keano Williams scored on and freshman Miguel Barnaby came off the bench to score his first two UMFK goals, three minutes apart to secure the 8-0 win.
Bengal keepers Akheim Forbes and Glenroy Osbourne split halves in goal and made one save.
