Bengals Drop Game to D2 Mercy
January 8, 2017 • Dobbs Ferry, New York

Valhalla, NY—The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s basketball team dropped a Saturday afternoon contest to NCAA Division II Mercy College, 96-39 at Westchester Community College.

UMFK jumped out to a 5-3 lead at the 7:47 mark of the first quarter and looked to be up to the challenge. However, the Mavericks quickly ended any hope for the Bengals as they followed with a 16-5 run to build a 19-10 lead with 3:35 left in the opening quarter. UMFK cut the deficit to six, 19-13, on an Angel Clark trifecta at the 2:47 mark, but that would be the closest they got for the rest of the game as Mercy ended the quarter on a 13-1 run to take a 32-14 lead into the second quarter. Mercy then outscored the Bengals 24-2 in the second quarter to lead 56-16 at the half.

UMFK was led by Savana Jankowski who had a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds.

Mercy was led by Cynthia Perez who scored a game-high 15 points, while junior Latisha Clark recorded 12 points and six rebounds on 5-of-6 shooting.
