Prior to UMFK, Sumalia comes to the Bengals from Feather River Community College. There, she was named a first team All-American as well as first team All-Region. She was named the player of the year in 2014 and 2015. In international play, Sherifatu has played in three FIFA Women's World Cups (2012 U-17 in Azerbaijan, 2014 U-17 in Trinidad & Tobago, and 2016 U-20 in Canada). In the 2014 WWC, against Finland she was named the FIFA Player of the Match. She led her team to a bronze medal in the 2012 games over Germany.
