Game Recap

Fort Kent, ME—The University of Maine at Fort Kent men’s basketball team won their 20th game while beating rival UMPI, 72-61 on Wednesday evening. This is the first time that UMFK has reached the 20 win plateau since the 2010-2011 season. This is the final regular season game for the Bengals who now await their National Tournament hopes on February 22nd.

The Owls started hot making 3 three pointers in the first eight minutes to open up a 19-10 lead, but the Bengals got their transition game going and went to a 2-3 zone defense that stifled UMPI and allowed only 6 points in the final 11 minutes of the half. Fletcher Brown hit two three pointers to bring the Owl lead down to 19-16.

The Bengals opened the game up in the second half extending the lead to as much as 14 points, but Owls wouldn’t go away as they would cut it to as little as 6, but that would be as close as they could get. Qaadir Ali scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and Mauro Vicic hit three second half three pointers on his way to 12 points. Marquis Glenn had 13 and Joe McCloskey had 10.

UMPI was led by Maurice Harris who had 14 points. UMFK held leading scorer Chase Vicaire to just two field goals and five points.
