Game Recap

Randolph Center, Vermont—The University of Maine at Fort Kent men’s and women’s basketball teams both defeated Vermont Tech on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference USCAA matchup. The men won 70-66 and the women won 78-25.

In the men’s game, neither team led by more than nine points throughout a tight, hotly contested matchup. The Bengals struck first, with their defense only allowed Vermont Tech to score 13 points in the first 12 minutes of action. UMFK used their driving attack to penetrate the defense and found cutters for easy layups early on. UMFK would trail 29-27 at the half, after an 8-0 VT run over the final three minutes.

In the second half, the Knights would open up an eight point advantage (46-38) after a 7-8 start from the field. The Bengals would not cave however and responded with a 24-7 run of their own, fueled by Troy Williams who scored 11 in that stretch, to lead 62-53, with under eight to go.

Vermont Tech cut the lead to one but never regained the lead. Anthony Knight sealed it with two free throws the put the Bengals ahead by four.

Knight scored 14 of his game high 24 in the second half as he drove the lane and finished with ease against the defense. Senior Bobby Syvanthong had an unusual double double, posting career highs in both rebounds with 16 and 13 assists. UMFK out-rebounded Vermont Tech 35-28 overall.

Williams scored 14 of his 18 in the second half as well.

Vermont Tech was led by Cameron Carter’s 19 points.
