Junior guard James Givens (Fairfield, California) scored a game-high 27 points and added seven assists to help lead the U-Maine-Fort Kent men’s basketball team past Aroostook County rival U-Maine-Presque Isle Wednesday night in a USCAA match-up from Fort Kent, Maine.
UMFK closed the first half on an 11-2 run to gain a 43-32 margin at the break. Givens and Jorge Matesanz (JR G Sevilla, Spain) nailed back-to-back three pointers to give UMFK a 21 point lead (64-43) with just over 7minutes remaining and Givens then hit 3 straight from down-town in under 2 minutes giving UMFK their largest lead of the game at 76-47 with just under four minutes left.
Sophomore guard Fred Sanchez (Bronx, NY) added 20 points and Matesanz had 14 points and seven assists for UMFK (7-17).
UMPI, who falls to 7-13 was led by Michael Warner’s 22 points and Brandon McGills eight points and ten rebounds.
