Game Recap

Fort Kent, ME—The Bengal men picked up their first regular season victory this afternoon beating the University of Maine Machias Clippers 72-70. The game was controlled by Machias for nearly the entire game until UMFK came charging back in the 2nd half. Machias led by as many as 14 in the first half after a Floyd Higgins 3 point shot made it 22-8, forcing a Bengal timeout. UMFK then answered with a 20-6 run of their own to tie the game at 28 with 3:34 left in the first half. Junior Marquis Glenn led the charge with 8 consecutive points to pull UMFK even.

Machias was able to maintain their lead throughout the second half as UMFK could never quite get over the hump until Freshman Jake Rioux hit a corner 3 point shot to give the Bengals their first lead of the game 68-67 with 3:39 left to play. That shot capped off 19-8 run over a seven minute stretch in the middle of the half. Machias trailed by 3 with 23 seconds left, but scored a quick layup and fouled the Bengals with 6.4 seconds remaining. UMFK missed both shots, giving the Clippers a chance to win it but a last second shot was off the mark.

Junior Qaadir Ali was huge for the Bengals on the afternoon, scoring 15 of his 20 in the 2nd half. It was a collective team effort from the Bengals though as Ali led three UMFK players in double figures. Sophomore big man, Joe McCloskey had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Marquis Glenn scored 11 and grabbed a team high 9 rebounds. Rioux hit three 3 pointers for 9 points.

UMFK will head on the road during the Thanksgiving holiday to Pennsylvania where they will play 3 games in the Pittsburgh area starting on Saturday November 29th.
