Game Recap

Fort Kent, Maine—The University of Maine Fort Kent men’s basketball team had their three game winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon as they dropped a tough, hard fought game to Berkeley College of New York, 81-67.

UMFK led at the half 26-25, but 12 second half turnovers and nearly 60% shooting by the Knights was too much for the Bengals to overcome. Berkeley started the half 30-14 in the first ten minutes to take a 56-39 lead.

UMFK then went to their full court man to man defense, which led to three Bengal steals and layups. UMFK battled all the way back to cut the lead to 66-62 on a Mauro Vicic three point basket. They could never get any closer than three the rest of the way, but Berkeley was too good from the foul line in the end.

Joe McCloskey had a huge second half with 15 points, finishing the game with 21. Qaadir Ali led UMFK with 22 points. James Givens had 8 points and 6 assists, but the three of them got very little help otherwise.

Berkeley College had five players in double figures led by Messiah Merritt’s 21 points and 5 assists. Kenton Chan-Man had 19 points, Stephon Jennings had 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
