Game Recap

Lynn, MA—The University of Maine Fort Kent Men’s basketball team dropped a well-played contest with the #3 team in the USCAA, West Virginia Tech 77-64 on Friday evening. The Bengals battled for 40 points, but were outmatched by the bigger Golden Bear lineup.

UMFK led early after consecutive three point baskets by Marquis Glenn, but that would be the last three pointer of the half as the Bengals would go on to miss their next 11 from long range. WV Tech would answer with a 16-4 run to go up 27-13. The game would remain even for the rest of the half and the Bengals found themselves down 35-20 after a Niko Vukosavovic tip in to end the half.

Both teams came out of the locker room shooting the ball well. The teams would trade baskets for much of the half until WV Tech scored 10 of 12 points to take their largest lead at 47-26. UMFK would continue to battle the entire way, eventually cutting the lead down to single digits at 9, after (64-55) a Joe McCloskey turnaround jumper. That would be as close as UMFK would get unfortunately as the Golden Bears made their foul shots down the stretch.

McCloskey had a tough game inside having to battle against the physical front line of West Virginia Tech. He finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds, but shot just 7 of 21 from the floor. Marquis Glenn had another all-around performance with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and a couple of assists. Mauro Vicic had 10 in the second half, 7 coming in the comeback run for UMFK. UMFK finished just 34.3% from the floor overall including 7-25 from distance. WV Tech on the other hand shot 52% with 50% from the 3 point line.

UMFK will play Sunday against high scoring Pine Manor. Game will tip at 1pm.
