2/28/2018 • Men's Basketball vs. Dean College
Fort Kent, ME—The University of Maine Fort Kent women’s basketball team completed the season sweep of rival University of Maine Presque Isle with an 89-48 victory. Senior Ericka Saucier was once again a monster inside with 25 points and 9 rebounds. The game was tight early on, as the Owls shot 65% early in the first half to keep the game within reach. The Bengals took a 13 point lead into the half and extended it after a 50-22 second half. UMFK held UMPI to 36% shooting in the second half and outrebounded the Owls 21-8.
Sam Carapellucci had a great all-around game with 12 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 blocks. Alexis Warne had 16 points, including four 3 pointers and 8 rebounds. Danielle Carrillo had 11 points.
UMPI was led by Rebecca Campbell’s 18 points and 8 rebounds. Sydney Churchill chipped in with 14.
In the men’s game, UMPI’s Nick Lehnard’s 3 point play with 10 seconds remaining, powered UMPI to a 52-51 win over rival UMFK.
UMFK once again dug themselves an early hole shooting 29% in the first half, but trailed by just 5. It didn’t get much better as UMFK did not score a point for the first 6:41 of the second half and UMPI built a 39-23 lead.
It was then the full court pressure of the Bengals that led the charge back into the game, as UMFK went on a 19-5 run to close the game to 44-42. The game was back and forth until Qaadir Ali made a short jumper to put the Bengals up 51-49 with 33 seconds to go. It was then that Lehnard drove the lane and was fouled while making the shot. The Bengals had two last second shots rim off, the last one from 3 feet, but couldn’t find the bottom of the net.
UMPI was led by Kevin Collins’s 15 and Chase Vicaire’s 13. UMFK was led by James Givens’ 15 points and Qaadir Ali’s 10.
