Fredericton, New Brunswick--The University of Maine at Fort Kent men's soccer team won two games in Canada this weekend, beating St. Thomas University of Fredericton on Friday evening (after press), 6-0 and University of New Brunswick St. John, 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
UMFK dominated play in both games and USCAA National Tournament MVP Butch Forbes pitched two more shutouts. Two time reigning USCAA Player of the Year, Ben Kluvers scored two goals in each game to power UMFK.
On Friday, Odean Irons scored eight minutes in and Keano Williams added one in the 28th minute for the 2-0 halftime lead. Kluvers then scored two goals, 12 minutes apart off passes from Stuart Conway and Carlos Lopez. Williams and Lopez each added a late second half goal for the Bengals. Forbes did not face a shot on goal.
On Saturday, the score line was not indicative of the game. The Bengals thoroughly outplayed the Seawolves of UNBSJ, but couldn't find the back of the net as much as they would have liked. Four first half goals was all UMFK needed to preserve the 4-0 score line.
Stefan Petricevic scored the first goal, eight minutes in on a cross the kept floating and eventually found its way to the back corner of the net. Kluvers then scored two goals in a six minute span to put any hopes UNB had to rest. Carlos Lopez added a goal and Kalusha Kotes had two assists.
