Game Recap

The UMFK men's soccer team defeated neighboring U-Maine-Presque Isle in convincing fashion 7-1 Wednesday afternoon in Presque Isle to win the annual Potato Barrel game. UMFK (6-0-0) has now won twelve straight Potato Barrels and has evened up the all-time series at 18 wins each (36 matches). The Bengals will play again this Friday when they travel to take on U-Maine Machias at 3pm.

In Wednesday afternoon’s game, Freshmen Jamie Reed led a balanced offensive attack with one goal and two assists for UMFK. UMPI made the game 2-1 in the 30th minute but Reid scored on junior forward Willie Monthe’s (Metz, France) assist less than a minute later to quickly turn the tables. UMFK would go on to score four more unanswered goals for the big win.

Jamie Cleland (Fr., Dunfermline, Scotland) picked up the win in goal for UMFK making three saves on four UMPI shots while Caleb Bragg-Grady took the loss with nine saves on 16 UMFK shots.

The UMPI goal was the first given up by UMFK in six matches this season.
