The USCAA number one ranked UMFK men’s soccer team suffered their first loss of the season and just the their second in two years of regular season play, 4-3 at USCAA #2 West Virginia Tech University Monday in Charleston, West Virginia in a match-up of the nations’ top two ranked teams. The game winner came off a WVU Tech corner kick with just six seconds left.
UMFK (12-1-0) scored the games’ first two goals on a pair of scores by Jamie Reed (14’ 25’) however WVU Tech answered with two scores of their own in the 29th and 40th minutes to tie the game at the break. After WVU Tech had taken the lead in the 60th minute, UMFK’s Justin Soontiens scored off Ben Kluvers second assist of the game to tie the match. WVU Tech then converted a corner kick with just six seconds left for the big win.
Jamie Cleland took his first career loss in goal for UMFK making seven saves on 13 WVU Tech shots while Richard Goss made four saves on seven UMFK shots for the hosts.
