Game Recap

The University of Maine Fort Kent (1-0-0) men’s soccer team began the 2014 campaign with a 6-0 win Thursday night against Crandall University of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada (0-1-0). Senior Willie Monthe opened the scoring in the 3rd minute off a through ball from Ben Kluvers and added another just a minute and a half later to put the Bengals firmly in the lead. Kluvers, a sophomore from Vernon Hills, IL, the leading goal scorer a year ago for UMFK added two first half goals of his own to close out the first half. His second goal was vintage Kluvers as he got behind the defense and chipped the shot over the goalie from 20 yards away.

Milton Christopher and Frantzeau Germain added second half goals in the final 13:15 to close out the scoring for the Bengals. UMFK finished with 22 shots on the night, continually peppering Crandall keeper Noah Edwards (8 saves). Goalies Jamie Cleland and Ahkeim Forbes split halves in goal and combined to save the only shot on goal they faced. Cleland picks up the first win of his sophomore season.

The two teams will meet once again next Wednesday September 3rd in Moncton. That game will kick off at 3:00pm.
