Chestnut Hill, MA— The University of Maine Fort Kent men’s soccer team (3-0-0) continued their perfect start to the 2014 season with a 6-0 shutout win against Pine Manor College (0-1-0). Sophomore Ben Kluvers opened the scoring for the Bengals deflecting a Stuart Conway corner kick into the back of the net in the 9th minute.
UMFK didn’t look back from there as goalkeepers Ahkeim Forbes and Jamie Cleland split halves in goal for the third consecutive game. Forbes, a freshman, picked up his first win in a UMFK uniform. Forbes stopped the only shot on goal they faced all night. Kennard Brown struck twice in a 2:36 span to put the game well in hand for UMFK. The first goal coming off a rebound from a Kluvers shot that was saved by Pine Manor keeper Dominic Douglas. The second goal was from a Kluvers assist as the Bengals took the goal kick in the air and went on the breakaway.
Freshman Garth Banton added two second half goals and Willie Monthe’s scorching start to his senior campaign continued with a goal in the 74th minute. Monthe’s goal was scored off a James-Williams Blanchet cross. Pine Manor’s Douglas and Oscar Estrada split halves in goal, each allowing 3 goals and saving six shots. The Bengals finished with a total of 28 shots, 12 coming on goal.
The Bengals are back in action Wednesday September 10th when they travel to Castine to take on NCAA Division III Maine Maritime. That game is slated to begin at 4:00pm.
