Waterville, Maine--The University of Maine at Fort Kent women's basketball team struggled mightly on offense this weekend and dropped both games at the Colby Classic. The Bengals lost 72-53 to host Colby College on Friday and dropped a 66-53 contest to St. Joseph's (ME) on Saturday afternoon. The two losses are the first two for the UMFK Bengals this season after an 8-0 start.

On Friday, Colby controlled the game from start to finish. The Mules scored 28 points in the second quarter to really open the game up and take a 12 point half time lead. UMFK would cut the lead to 8 in the second quarter but trailed by 15+ throughout the second half.

Ericka Saucier led Maine-Fort Kent with 17 points and nine rebounds.  Romanalyn Inocencio added 11 points and a game-high seven assists, Danielle Carrillo finished with eight points and six rebounds, Ahjana Coleman had eight points and four steals, and Samantha Carapellucci had seven points and six boards.


Colby was led by Emily Davis, who had a collegiate-high 15 rebounds and 9 points and teammate Haley Driscoll scored 16 points.

In Saturday's game the Bengals played better leading at the half by two points, 31-29. Saucier had a monster half with 12 points and 10 rebounds. In the second half however, it was all Monks. St. Joe's outscored the Bengals 37-22 in the final 20 minutes, holding UMFK to just five second half field goals.

Despite the second half offensive struggles, UMFK took the lead on a Sam Carapellucci foul shot, 51-50. St Joe's then went on a 14-0 run over 6:15 to put the game out of reach. The Monks drilled 3 point baskets on three consecutive possessions, forcing two UMFK timeouts.

Ericka Saucier once again had a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds (12 defensive). Romanalyn Inocencio had 14 points and four assists for UMFK. Carapellucci also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Danielle Carrillo had seven points and four assists.
