Game Recap

The U-Maine-Fort Kent women's basketball lost their first game of the season, 77-66 to Pine Manor College Saturday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass.  UMFK (2-1) will play at Fisher College in Lynn, Mass. Sunday at 2pm.

Pine Manor College women’s basketball sophomore Ari DeJesus (Providence, R.I.) scored a game-high 25 points as the Gators held off two UMFK second half rallies.

UMFK senior guard Taylor Boucher (Fort Kent, Maine) scored a team-high 16 points—all of which came in the second half - while sophomore Samantha Carapellucci (Fort Kent, Maine) recorded a double-double, scoring 15 points and collecting a game-high 11 rebounds.  Junior Alexis Warne (Salinas, Calif) also finished in double-figures with 14 points.

Pine Manor broke an 8-all tie with a 7-0 run five minutes into the contest, taking a 15-8 lead. However the Lady Bengals would cut the deficit to 15-11, thanks to a foul shot and a layup from Carapellucci on back-to-back possessions but Pine Manor responded with a big run of their own and headed into the break with a 45-29 lead.

Boucher led the first Lady Bengal second half rally, shooting 4-6 from three-point range after the break, to bring the visitors to within two points, at 59-57, with 6:49 to play in the contest. Pine Manor responded with a 7-0 run to push their advantage to 66-57 with just over five minutes to play.

UMFK made their final push to cut the deficit to just five points with two and a half minutes remaining but a three-pointer from Pine Manor would give the Gators an eight point advantage, at 69-61, with only 1:57 and they went on to hit all but one foul shot in the final two minutes to take the 77-66 victory.
