Game Recap

The University of Fort Kent women’s basketball team finished off a dominating weekend of basketball, beating Thomas College of Waterville, 69-41 Sunday afternoon. The Bengals also defeated Fisher College of Boston on Saturday afternoon, 107-39.

On Saturday, the Bengals and Falcons battled for the first three minutes but 41-10 run over the next 13 minutes to put the game out of hand. UMFK held Fisher to just 23% shooting from the floor and forced 35 Falcon turnovers. The Bengals grabbed 21 offensive rebounds and 62 overall and made 21 of 31 from the foul line.

Every Bengal scored, including 6 different double-figure scorers. Danielle Carrillo and Sabrina Head both had 15. Ericka Saucier had 14 and 9 rebounds. Alexis Warne had a great all-around game with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Necole White had 13 points 5 assists and 4 steals and Sam Carapellucci had 11 points.

On Sunday in Waterville, UMFK scored the first 11 points and never looked back. Thomas College kept themselves in it for a few minutes but the Bengals defense held the Terriers to 12 first half points, en route to a 17 point halftime lead. UMFK’s defense again held their opponent to under 30% shooting (27.8) and heavily outrebounded Thomas College, 54-34.

Like Saturday, every Bengal in uniform got on the scoresheet led by Senior Ericka Sauciers’ 16 points and 10 rebounds. Bobbi Myles was the only other double figure scorer with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Jasmine Rowland contributed a little of everything as she had 4 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals.

UMFK will head into the Holiday break with a 5-4 record and will not play again in 2014. They will return to action on January 3 & 4 in the 2nd Annual Can-Am tournament in Saint John, New Brunswick.
