Game Recap

Lewiston, Maine--The University of Maine at Fort Kent women's soccer team continued their recent dominance with a 6-2 win over Bates College of the NESCAC, one of NCAA Division III's top conferences, Sunday afternoon. Bates College had only allowed six goals the entire season coming into the match, but the Bengals were able to strike early and often.

Senior striker Katherine Ferland turned in one of the best games of her Bengal career with four goals, including a first half hat trick. She scored just four minutes into the game and then again four minutes later on a penalty kick. She would complete the hat trick in the 34th minute to put the Bengals up 4-0. Catherine Bruno added the third goal from a Veronica De La Cruz assist. Yosselin Burrueco picked up two assists on Ferland's first and fourth goals. Kayla Richards added a late goal with one second remaining for the Bengals.

Bates College got on the scoreboard in the 62nd minute after Maggie Coco knocked home a corner kick and Karen Lockhart scored 78th minute after a lofting cross found her foot and the ball snuck past UMFK keeper Michelle Delgadillo. Delgadillo picked up the win despite allowing those two late goals.

Bates keepers Sarah McCarthy and Allegra Sacco split halves in goal, combining to make 15 saves.
