Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania--The University of Maine at Fort Kent women's soccer team ended a season opening five game road trip with a win against Point Park University of the NAIA, 3-1 on Wesnesday afternoon. The game was delayed mid-match for 40 minutes due to a thunder and lightning storm.
UMFK did all their scoring in the first 23 minutes to end any hopes PPU had of knocking off the Bengals. Sherifatu Sumaila of Ghana, showed once again why she has been the best player of the field as she opened the scoring in the 11th minute on a service from Marie-Laurence Montagne. This was her sixth goal of the season.
Catherine Bruno scored her first goal of the season and Sumaila returned the favor to Montagne in the 23rd minute to power the Bengals through.
Valentina Green made six saves and picked up the win for UMFK.
