Game Recap

Pepper Pike, Ohio- The University of Maine at Fort Kent women's soccer team tied their second game of the road trip, 3-3, against NCAA Division II, Ursuline College, who was picked to finish second in their conference this season.

This match was the complete opposite for UMFK than their first contest of the season, as they got out to a 3-0 lead, only to have their opponent come back to tie the game This time the home team jumped out to a 3-0 lead, just 36 minutes into the game, unfamiliar territory for UMFK in the past few seasons, only to have the Bengals make a furious comeback.

The Bengals showed their fighting spirit and it was once again Player of the Year, Sherifatu Sumaila led the comeback with two goals and an assist.

Freshman Jasmine Jacas played a through ball to Sumaila who finished from about 12 yards out to get UMFK on the board just before halftime. Fellow freshman Tolu Oyeniyi took a cross from Sumaila and snuck it past the keeper in the 61st minute to cut the deficit to just a goal.

Sumaila then got the Bengals even after she took a chipped ball into space from Ronique Douglas-Edwards that Sumaila tracked down and finished.

UMFK hit the post twice in the overtime periods but just couldn't sneak in a game winner.

Valentina Green gave up the three first half goals and was replaced by Sophomore Alice Van Kovn who shutout Ursuline for the final 75 minutes and earned her first result as a Bengal.

UMFK continues their road trip in Buffalo against USCAA member, Villa Maria tomorrow, September 5.
