Wenham, Massachusetts--The University of Maine at Fort Kent women's soccer team was defeated by Gordon College, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon. This ends the Bengals 40 match unbeaten streak, dating back to the 2015 season.
The Bengals once again found themselves in an early hole as the hosts scored twice in the opening 16 minutes of the match. Both goals were scored off crosses, in a match where UMFK was dominated, something that has not happened in years. Gordon outshot the Bengals 29-11 overall.
UMFK got back to 2-1 when a Sherifatu Sumaila goal was scored off a rocket from the middle of the box, but it wasn't enough. Gordon scored in the 60th minute to put the game away as Asha Steele dribbled around Bengal keeper Valentina Green to put Gordon on top, 3-1. Freshman Tolu Oyeniyi scored off a deflection in the 81st minute, but the Bengals could never get the equalizer.
