Game Recap

Fort Kent, ME—The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s soccer team continued their perfect home start, beating Bryant and Stratton-Syracuse, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon. UMFK moves to 6-1-2.

This was the most entertaining home matchup for UMFK as Bryant and Stratton controlled the game for part of the second half, but couldn’t put a ball in the back of the net. UMFK was playing their first home contest under interim coach Larry Simpson.

UMFK scored all three first half goals in a seven minute span during the first half. USCAA Player of the Year Sheriaftu Sumaila scored first, as freshman Madison Doucette sent a through ball that Sumaila chased down and buried past B&S keeper Ebony King.

Freshman Tolu Oyeniyi then scored off a cross from Sumaila. Sumaila leads the USCAA with 15 goals and 11 assists on the season.

Catherine Bruno had a strike from nearly 25 yards out and Sumaila added a late second half goal to close out the Bengal scoring. Sumaila hit the post on four other shots, a little luck on the part of Bryant and Stratton.

UMFK outshot the Bobcats 20-7 on the afternoon. Valentina Green picked up the win, making three saves on the day.
