Game Recap

Castine, Maine—The UMFK women’s soccer team (4-1-0) fought their opponent and tough conditions Thursday afternoon, as the Bengals bested Maine Maritime Academy 1-0.

The teams were forced to play through, at times, down pouring rain on the turf at Ritchie Field in Castine. UMFK struck early on a goal by Katherine Ferland in the 10th minute. She took the ball down the right flank and placed a shot just inside the far post past Maine Maritime keeper Kelsie Hilton. That goal would prove to be the game winner, as the Bengals had trouble finding the back of the net with the tricky conditions playing a big part.

Junior Kara Leffle picked up her first victory in a Bengal uniform in her first action of the season. She was not forced to make a save, as none of the four Mariner shots were on target. Hilton was solid in goal for MMA, as she turned back six of seven shots on goal she faced.

The Bengals will have eight days off before heading to USCAA foe University of Maine Machias. That game is set for a 2:00pm kickoff next Friday, September 19th.
