Game Recap

Fort Kent—The UMFK women’s volleyball team swept Machias in a doubleheader Friday night, in their first home match of the season. The first match went the Bengals way with set scores of, 25-8, 25-13, & 25-15. The second match also went three sets, 25-10, 25-10, & 25-19.

The Bengals started out strong and never looked back. UMFK’s hard serves caught Machias off guard and the Clippers never were able to recover. In the first match, UMFK tallied 40 overall kills in the three sets, to just 13 errors. Seniors Anna Peabody and Danielle Carrillo each attacked 25 times, accounting for 12 and 13 kills, respectively. Senior Jessekah McCorkle had 26 assists as the setter. The Bengals tallied 11 service aces in that first set alone.

In the second match, the Clippers of Machias were able to hang for stretches of sets with the Bengals, but the overall prowess in hitting, ultimately prevailed. The Bengals were slightly less efficient finishing with 35 kills in all, and again 13 errors. A majority of those errors came in a sloppy second set. UMFK had 16 service aces in the match, led by Junior LaTisha Carballo’s six, and Junior Tiara Nolen and Carrillo each had 5.

The Lady Bengals will hit the road Sunday as they travel to Johnson, VT for a tri-match against Paul Smith’s College and Johnson St.
