Bangor, Maine—The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s volleyball team concluded a perfect weekend by winning both matches against Maine Maritime Academy on Sunday afternoon, 3-0 and 3-0. The Bengals competed in the Husson Invitational on Friday and Saturday and won all four matches, including beating host school Husson University in the Championship match for the second consecutive season, 3-0. Hope Grace and Selina Castro were named to the all-tournament team.
On Friday UMFK beat Unity in three sets to none, Saturday beat Husson University 3-1, UMPI 3-0, and Husson 3-0. Sunday the Bengals demolished host Maine Maritime Academy on their home court in consecutive matches. In the first match the Bengals started on a 12-2 run in the first set and never looked back from there. MMA held a 22-19 advantage in the second set but UMFK battled back to win it 25-23. They secured the third set by playing consistent volleyball on offense and great defense, limiting MMA to only 7 kills in the third set. In the second matchup the first two sets were relatively tight, 25-22 and 25-18 but the Bengals cruised in the third set. The wind was taken from the Mariners sails as UMFK ran away with a 25-12 final set. UMFK was much more efficient on offense with 31 kills to just five errors while Maine Maritime had 27 kills against a whopping 21 errors.
