Game Recap

 The U-Maine-Fort Kent women’s basketball team used a strong second half Sunday afternoon to defeat State University of New York (SUNY) Canton 65-57 in a top 20 USCAA D1 showdown from Fort Kent, Maine.  

UMFK (11-9, USCAA #12) fell behind 28-21 at the break but attacked the basket in the second half and got to the foul line 33 times, knocking down 19. The host Lady Bengals also tuned poor 32% (7-22) first half shooting into 52% (11-21) in the second while clamping down on defense in holding SUNY Canton (9-8, USCAA #16) to just 28% and only eight total field goals on twenty-eight attempts.

Junior guard Jenn Colpitts (Scarborough, Maine) led four UMFK players in double figure scoring with 16 points and added eight rebounds. Back court mate Brooke Harris (Jr. Lee, Maine) added 15 points on 5-10 shooting while Taylor Boucher (So., Fwd, Fort Kent, Maine) had 12 points. Freshmen forward Samantha Carapellucci (Fort Kent, Maine) had 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for the Lady Bengals. Colpitts led the UMFK attack at the foul line hitting 10 of 14 on the day. UMFK outscored SUNY Canton 44-29 in the second.

SUN Y Canton was led by Joelle Percy with 13 points and Kaitlin Meyers added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

UMFK, winners of four of their last five games, will play at U-Maine Augusta this Wednesday night in Bangor, Maine at 5pm.
