The University of Maine-Fort Kent women’s soccer team defeated Daemen College (Amherst, NY) 1-0 Sunday in a USCAA match from Fort Kent, Maine for their second straight victory over the Wildcats and third overall this season.

All three games between the two programs have been one goal affairs this year. UMFK (10-0-0) defeated Daemen (3-6-0) in Amherst, New York 2-1 in overtime on September 2nd and then 3-2 Saturday in Fort Kent.

On Sunday, the two teams played another close, hard fought match. Daemen outshot UMFK 12-11 overall (6-1 in the second half) and the teams were even at five in shots on goal and four in corner kicks.

The only score on the day came off the foot of freshmen forward Katherine Ferland (Montreal, Quebec) from the middle of the field, 25yrds out on a direct kick in the 35th minute. Ferland beat Daemen keeper Kayla Hampton low to her left for her USCAA leading 24th goal and 52nd point of the season. It was her second straight game winner for the host Lady Bengals over Daemen.

Kimika Forbes (Jr., Trinidad & Tobago) and the UMFK defense made the score stand as they kept Daemen scoreless for the remainder of the contest. Forbes earned the shut out making five saves on five shots while Hampton was the hard luck loser stopping four of five UMFK shots.

UMFK honored seniors Jamie Pelletier (Mf., Eagle Lake, Maine), Andrea Pelletier (Def., Montreal, Quebec), Marie-Michele Lachance (Def., Ste. Jerome, Quebec), Marie-Pier Daze (Ste. Sophie, Quebec), Olivia Schmiedlehner (Mf., Abbot, Maine) and Theresa Biggs (Mf., Cape Town, South Africa) in a ceremony prior to the game as they played in the final home game of their careers. The Lady Bengals, who are ranked no. 1 in the most recent USCAA Coaches Poll, play their final five regular season games on the road.
