Basketball teams, players honored at Final 4 Banquet
February 25, 2011 • Portland, Maine

The Sunrise Conference handed out their annual men’s and women’s basketball awards at the Final Four Basketball Banquet at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland, Maine Friday evening.

UMaine Fort Kent teams, players, coaches and their former President Dr. Richard Cost were honored at the leagues ninth annual banquet preceding the final four which begins Saturday at Windham High School in Windham, Maine.

The Lady Bengals, the top seed in the women’s final four, were presented with the team Sunrise Conference Regular Season Championship plaque. Jenn Colpitts (Fy., Scarborough, Maine) was named the Rookie of the Year and to the SC Second Team while Amber Garrison (Sr., capt. Oroville, Calif.) was named to the SC First Team. UMFK women’s head coach was named Co-Coach of the Year alongside Bruce Talon of SUNY Canton. The #1 Lady Bengals will kick off tourney play at 1pm Saturday when they face #4 UMM.

In the men’s awards, Kevin Loiselle (Fy., Montreal, Canada) gave UMFK a sweep of the first year top player awards by taking home the Rookie of the Year. He was also named to the SC First Team. Junior captain Manny Odugbela (Providence, R.I.) was named to the SC Second Team. The #2 Bengals will compete in the night cap of the semi-final round when they race #3 Vermont Tech. at 7pm Saturday night.

Dr. Cost, who retired from his presidency at UMFK last year, was honored by the Sunrise Conference for his six year stint for his dedicated work as the SC Chair of the Presidents Council for the NAIA.
