Lady Bengals advance to play for third straight National Championship

The UMFK women's soccer team defeated Albany College of Pharmacy 7-1 Friday afternoon in the USCAA Women's Soccer National Semifinals in Asheville, North Carolina. The Lady Bengals (16-0) will play for their third straight USCAA National Championship tomorrow, Saturday, November 3 at 11 a.m against #6 Daemen College.

On Friday afternoon, the UMFK offense scored four first half goals for the second straight day and have now outscored their opponents 13-1 in the first two rounds of the tournament. Katherine Ferland (Montreal) scored the games’ first goal in the 11th minute and would add two more on the day for her second consecutive hat trick. UMFK also received goals from Ariane Pelletier (Montreal), Theresa Biggs (Cape Town, South Africa) and Erin Madore (Van Buren, ME). Their second goal of the day was an ACPHS own goal.

Victoria Dubois-Iredale (Montreal), Kayla Richards (Presque Isle), Marie Pier-Daze (Quebec), Pelletier, Ferland and Jenn Colpitts (Scarborough, Maine) all got credit for assists on the day. Kimika Forbes (Trinidad & Tobago), who gave up her first goal of the Championship in the 62nd minute to ACPHS player Jen Bechard, made two saves on three shots for the win. UMFK outshot ACPHS 12-3 overall. Alexandra Weston made five saves for 9-5-1 ACPHS.

UMFK will host a live viewing party of the USCAA Championships Saturday on the UMFK campus in Nadeau Hall with doors opening at 10:50am.

UMFK has will play Daemen College (Amherst, NY) for the fourth time this season in Saturday’s Championship Game. The Lady Bengals defeated the Wildcats three times by just one goal; 2-1 in OT on September 2 at Daemen; 3-2 September 29 in Fort Kent and 1-0 September 30 in Fort Kent.
