SUNY Canton pulls away from UMFK men's basketball

The State University of New York (SUNY) Canton withstood a late second half U-Maine Fort Kent rally to pick up a road win Sunday in a USCAA D1 match-up from Fort Kent, Maine 75-66.

SUNY Canton (6-13) built an 18 point lead by halftime (44-26) behind 65% (17-26) shooting including a 5-8 (62%) effort from three-point range. However, UMFK scratched and clawed their way back into the game behind senior co-captain Adam Bouchard (Fort Kent, Maine) who scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half. Sr. co-captain Yoshives Belazaire (Miramar, Florida) also scored 20 points and grabbed a team-high seven boards for UMFK who got within four points late but gave up a conventional three point play to Khalid Vaughn (team-high 15 points) in the last minute which sealed the win for the Roos.

Ryan Lamica added 14 points and Xavier Fisher had 13 points and team-high seven rebounds for SUNY Canton who held a 18-7 advantage in bench points and a 33-27 edge on the boards. UMFK will hit the road Wednesday for a in-state USCAA game at U-Maine Augusta at 7pm.
