Men's Soccer Crushes Maine Maritime

Castine, Maine--The University of Maine at Fort Kent men's soccer team crushed in state opponent Maine Maritime Academy 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Bengals scored four goals in the opening 19 minutes of play and never looked back.

Kalusha Kotes opened the scoring for UMFK in the 11th minute on a pass from Odean Irons. Kotes then returned the favor just one and a half minutes later to put the Bengals on top 2-0. The goal was the fifth on the season for Irons.

Carlos Crusat-Lopez connected with Ben Kluvers for the Bengals' third goal of the game and Kluvers' eighth goal of the season. Then Irons added his second goal of the game in the 20th minute.

UMFK's Faizi Salim found an open Keano Williams to make it 5-0.

Maine Maritime's Ike Doiron beat Fort Kent's goalie Butch Forbes on a penalty kick for the Mariners only goal.

Both teams continued to battle in the second half, but the offense was limited, with neither team finding the back of the net.

Joshua Reeks stopped eight shots in net for the Mariners and Ahkeim Forbes earned the win in net for the Bengals, being forced to save no shots.
