MEN'S BASKETBALL vs. VILLA MARIA COLLEGE

Buffalo, NY--The University of Maine at Fort Kent men's basketball team survived a thriller in Buffalo against Villa Maria College, 71-69. The Bengals led throughout but the Vikings made a late run to get the game as close as two, but couldn't get any closer.

Jake Rioux hit five three pointers on his way to a game-high tying 17 points. Qaadir Ali also had 17 points, and contributed 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.

Both teams stayed in zone for most of the night, but it was the Bengals who shot better from outside. UMFK hit seven 3's compared to VMC who hit just three. UMFK led by 7 with 3:40 to go, but a 6-0 run cut the lead to just one. It was then Rioux who hit the biggest shot of the night to put UMFK up four, 71-67 and they survived from there. Two missed front end of the 1 & 1 free throw bonuses allowed Villa Maria a chance to win it at the buzzer with a 3 point shot, but it bounced out.

Joe McCloskey had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Marquis Glenn had 11 points.
